Smashing...Live! was a live, orchestrated performance by the New Japan Philharmonic of many of the musical theme songs from the game Super Smash Bros. Melee for Nintendo GameCube (GCN). The music was recorded and released as a promotional album in 2003. It was given away as a bonus for subscribing to Nintendo Power magazine in North America. The album was given for free to the subscribers of the time, as well as in issue #137 of the British Nintendo Official Magazine. Japan was the only country to see the album for sale. Such a manner of release can make it difficult to locate. Unlike most other video game soundtracks, which are essentially recordings of game music, all of the pieces for Smashing...Live! are completely re-arranged and fully orchestrated. As the album is live, the audience can sometimes be heard giving a round of applause after each piece. In the final track, "Rainbow Cruise", the audience claps along to the beat of the music for the second half of the performance.
