Sabor is the minor villain in the Tarzan franchise. In the late 1880s off the coast of Africa, a young couple and their infant son escape a burning ship, ending up on land near uncharted rainforests. The couple craft themselves a treehouse from their ship's wreckage, but are killed by a rogue leopard named Sabor. Kala, a gorilla who recently lost her own child to Sabor, hears the cries of the orphaned infant, taking him his as her own, but her newfound moment is short-lived when Sabor, who was still in the treehouse, attacks the gorilla, and plans to devour Tarzan. But, thanks to Kala, the voracious big cat fails and gets stuck in ropes.

Though he befriends other gorillas in the pack and other animals, including the young female gorilla Terk and the male elephant Tantor, Tarzan finds himself unable to keep up with them, and takes great efforts to improve himself including fashioning crude tools to put him on par with the other gorillas. As a young man, Tarzan kills Sabor with the head of his crude spear and protect the troupe, earning Kerchak's reluctant respect. In Tarzan II, a young Tarzan has his first encounter with Sabor. The big cat chased Tarzan into Dark Mountain until Sabor was scared away by the Zugor.

Trivia[]

Little known fact: Although Sabor's gender is never revealed in the film, the original Sabor in the Tarzan novels was female. In fact, Sabor was a name for all lionesses (Numa being the name for the male lions). In the Disney movie, Sabor was made into a leopard because lions don´t actually live in the jungle. (Leopards are also the main and only natural predators to gorillas). Although Sabor's species was changed, it is logic to assume that she is still a female in the Disney film. Sabor is a feline villain, much like Shere Khan and Scar. But unlike the first two, Sabor doesn't talk
