Navi

Navi as she appears in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

Navi is a fictional character in Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda franchise and Link's sidekick in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

Character history Edit

Navi was Link's trusty fairy partner just before and during the Imprisoning War. She was summoned by the Great Deku Tree to accompany Link on his quest to save Hyrule. She helped Link throughout his adventure by providing information regarding the weaknesses of enemies, and hinted as to what area of Hyrule Link should travel to next in order to further his quest. After the two saved Hyrule together, Navi left Link and flew away because Link is not actually a Kokiri and only Kokiri children can have fairies. She was last seen flying toward the window behind the Pedestal of Time in the Temple of Time. Gamers learn in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess that this particular window leads to a much larger portion of the Temple of Time (or possibly the Temple of Light), meaning that Navi likely went on into the part of the temple that lies beyond the window at the end of Ocarina of Time. Her reason for doing so, however, remains a mystery.

It is likely that Link was looking for Navi when he stumbled into Termina. The most prevalent theory regarding the "friend with whom he parted ways when he finally fulfilled his heroic destiny" (mentioned in the introductory sequence to The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask) is that the "friend" is Navi. This is made all the more probable given the "fairy flying" sound-effect that is played after the text disappears off the screen, but before the Lost Woods scene begins.

Behind the scenesEdit

  • Navi's help system is widely criticized amongst fans, many of whom view Navi's input as obnoxious and insistent. However, she is useful in that she has information on every enemy in the game, which can be accessed by talking to her whilst an enemy is targeted. Navi's lines "Hey" "Look" "Watch out" and "Listen" (though she also said "Hello!" as if to snap Link out of a daze) have become iconic in gaming culture and are considered synonymous with Ocarina of Time. She has even been listed as the most irritating female character by gamesradar.
  • In the Manga, as Navi leaves through the window, she says that she is returning to the forest. She also says, "Link! I love you!" as she leaves the window.
