Anointed One (Buffyverse) was the title referring to an prophesied ally of the Master who would lead the Slayer into him and his freedom. A boy named Collin rose as the Anointed,[1] and he played his role in the prophecy that brought Buffy Summers to her first death.[2]

History[]

The prophecy of the Anointed One was described in the Writings of Aurelius as it follows:[1]

"And there will be a time of crisis, of worlds hanging in the balance. And in this time shall come the Anointed, the Master's great warrior. And the Slayer will not know him, will not stop him, and he will lead her into Hell. Five will die, and from their ashes the Anointed shall rise. The Brethren of Aurelius shall greet him and usher him to his immortal destiny."

The Anointed was expected to rise the evening of the thousandth day after the Advent of Septus. In 1998, as reported in the Sunnydale Press, four adults and one child traveled trough Sunnydale at night, but the van crashed causing the death of all passengers and its driver.[1]

Rupert Giles noticed that among them was Andrew Borba, whom the police sought for questioning in a double murder, and suspected this would be the Master's prophesied warrior. The Watcher went to investigate this in Sunnydale Cemetery's mortuary, and the |Scoobies were able to incinerate the newly risen vampire. Unbeknownst to them, they weren't able to prevent the Anointed One to rise, as the eight-year-old Collin was just welcome by the Master.[1]

According to the technopagan Brother luca, the biblical passage Isaiah 11:6 mentioned the Anointed One as well, foretelling that he would be a child:[2]

"The wolf shall live with the lamb, the leopard shall lie down with the kid, the calf, the lion and the fatling together, and the little child to lead them."

In the night the Master would take over Sunnydale, the Anointed found the Slayer Buffy Summers and led her into the Church he had been long imprisoned. The Master hypnotized and bit the Slayer, leaving her to drown, and her powerful blood allowed him to leave the place. Despite the inevitable prophecy, she was revived through CPR, then followed and killed the Master.[2]

Months later, the Anointed used his influence over other vampires to retrieve the Master's remains and unsuccessfully attempted to perform a revivification ritual to bring him back.[3] He continued as a leader of the Order of Aurelius until his death at the hands of the new master vampire Spike, who burned him in sunlight.[4]
